Historical Vignette

The Royal Art Lodge (1996-2008) was a collective founded by Michael Dumontier, Marcel Dzama, Neil Farber, Drue Langlois, Jonathan Pylypchuk and Adrian Williams while they were studying art at University of Manitoba. Hollie Dzama and Myles Langlois later joined the group, which favoured a collaborative approach and met weekly. Their creative process was democratic and anonymous: each piece was begun by one member and then passed on for contributions by others until everyone deemed it complete. Michael Dumontier and Neil Farber have continued to work together since the group disbanded.
