" My paintings explore themes of car culture, consumerism and, urban sprawl. Through this subject matter, I aim to engage the viewer in dense manifestations of contemporary life, with reference to the past tradition of Canadian landscape painting and modernist abstraction. These are colourful and busy landscapes but also present a dark realism, and are open to interpretation of meaning: society’s dependence on cars, the rural-urban fringe, and plastic architecture. I aim to communicate a sense of excessive widespread consumption and environmental impact. "
